We are pleased to inform you that our Golden Eye Chef – Cooking Beyond
Seeing – a first-of-its-kind, national level online cooking contest 2020 for the visually impaired has reached the second phase. 21 Visually Impaired participants from across the nation are ready to showcase their culinary talent online, with videos of 64 dishes in total.
The theme of this online contest organized during the pandemic and lockdown was, Don’t waste, don’t throw, create new food. Food waste is a serious problem in our society; according to a report, India wastes INR 244 crores worth of food per day.
This cooking contest therefore, is the perfect means to spread this message.
Despite all the odds and hurdles in their way, from shooting the videos, to transferring the large files and completing all formalities without outside support given the lockdown, these participants with visual impairment managed to participate in this unique contest, ready to showcase their culinary talent, along with this valuable message to all of us: to stop wasting food.
They have done their job, and now it is our turn to promote and support them. The second phase of this contest gives us an opportunity to promote blind people’s cooking, along with the same message.
Here’s what you all can do, and it will hardly take a few minutes! from August 10, 2020 onwards, all the videos of the dishes will be available on our Youtube channel “golden eye chef” for voting, as we have also decided to have an audience choice award for the best blind chef this time. Voting will be on till 20th August 2020.
We invite you to check out the cooking videos, like, share, and comment on them, to help determine the audience choice award, thereby also encouraging our visually impaired participants.
