Dish name: Daal Chawal Ka Upma
Brief Description: Its a breakfast or an evening snack dish. Made from broken rice and split moong daal. It is very light and requires very few ingredients.
Ingredients: Broken rice (1 bowl) and Split moong daal (1 bowl), Oil (1 tablespoon), Mustard seeds (half teaspoon), Dry red chillies (3-4), Curry leaves (7-8), 3 bowls of water and Salt to taste.
Preparation and cooking time: 15 minutes
Steps:
1. If you do not have Broken rice, here is the recipe; Soak rice for 1 hour in water. Then drain water, spread the rice over a cloth and dry it under the fan for 2 hours. Then give a quick churn in the mixer. Broken rice is ready.
2. Soak moong dasl in water for 2 hours.
3. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a Kadhai.
4. Add Mustard seeds. Once Mustard seeds have popped, add dried red chillies and curry leaves and saute.
5. Add soaked daal and saute for a minute. Then add water and cover the vessel and cook on medium flame for 5-7 minutes or until the daal is tender.
6. Now add rice and salt and give it a good mix, then cover the vessel and cook for 3-4 minutes.
7. Now the upma is ready. Mix it well and serve hot.
